G Star’s Platform against Poverty

Taking the platform
Taking the platform

During last New York Fashion Week, the demin brand G Star used its fashion show as a platform for the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The brand collaborated with the  actors Alan Cummings and Heather Graham (both Goodwill ambassadors for the UN) to bring awareness to fashion circles and the wider public about the MDGs. The MDGs are a set of 8 goals that we (the international community embodied in the United Nations) have pledged to achieve in order to end extreme poverty by 2015. I think this event was a great idea, because the MDGs need attention in the general public. An increase in citizen awareness on these issues can lead to greater political will by governments to meet their funding pledges. More funding is essential if we want to achieve the MDGs.

If their are two things that I love, then they are: (1) Putting an end to injustice and poverty and (2) Fashion (could you guess?). When they are combined in one event, then I’m over the moon.  Good job G Star! Below are some pictures from the event.

I will posting more in depth about the MDGs in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. But for now if you want to find out more go to:
