World Water Day

Today is World Water Day and it’s a tragic fact that 1.1 billion people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water and sanitation. Did you know that 4500 children will die today because of it. But we can help to change that. One small thing you can do is  to watch the Youtube video below. For every view of the video A Glimmer of Hope Foundation will donate 1 cent to building a charity: water well. Such a well can serve 400 people for 20 years! So it’s well worth it, plus the video is really well-done (there was really no pun intended there.!). I think you might actually have to watch the video on the Youtube page, so just double click on the video. The song in the video is ‘Timebomb’ by Beck.

Another way you can help with the water crisis is to donate money to charity: water. I think I’ve mentioned them a few times now, but they are one of favourite charities. 100% of all the money you donate  goes directly to building wells in developing countries (they don’t take a  dime towards admin costs – their sponsors cover those). Also, for only $20, you will provide 1 person with clean water for 20 years. It’s the best $20 you ever spent. Go to their website to donate: www.charitywater.org.

You could also purchase or download a documentary directed by Matt Damon called ‘Running the Sahara’. It costs $9.99 and follows the experience of a group of runners who make it across the Sahara desert. This movie supports the H2O Africa Foundation, which was co-founded by Matt Damon. H2O Africa Foundation helps to bring clean drinking water to schools and villages in Africa.

Don’t forget to watch the Youtube video and pass it along to your friends.
